Who can be my mentor?Mentors must have successfully completed the Oxford Brookes Online Mentoring course and become Registered Mentors for the BSc in Applied Accounting.
What i have to do to choose you as my mentor?
If you would like to choose me as your mentor you have to look at the mentoring service and read the Terms and Conditions. If you have more inquiries feel free to contact me. Then proceed to the Registration which is a very simple process.
Do I need to read the information Pack?
Yes. The Information Pack contains all the relevant details for the Research and Analysis Project, such us project titles, mentoring, guidance on referencing etc.
When can I submit a project?
There are two submission periods each year, one in May and one in November.
How can I pay for the mentoring service?
You can pay on-line, when you submit your registration form. Payments can be made through Paypal, credit or debit card.
If I chance my mind, can i cancel or postpone the mentoring service?
Yes, you can. Please read the Terms and Conditions.
How important is the demonstration of IT application?
It is very important. You MUST attach a spreadsheet as an Appendix in Excel format (.xlsx or .xls) which demonstrates the use of appropriate formulae. Otherwise, you are going to fail.
How important is the proper referencing?
It is extremely important. Oxford Brookes University follows the Harvard referencing system. If you do not reference your project properly there is a high possibility to be accused for plagiarism and most probably fail to pass your project.
What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism occurs when you produce someone else's work within your report without acknowledging the fact. Clearly if you fail to provide a reference for a sentence or paragraph that you took from another text then that is plagiarism. This is a serious disciplinary issue and may result in being permanently excluded from Oxford Brookes University and action from the ACCA may result.
How do I submit my project?
You will need to go to: www.obusubmissions.co.uk. You should then click on “not yet registered” and enter your details. Your login details are not the same as your myACCA login details. Please keep your log-in details safe, as you will need to use them again when you access your results. Give yourself enough time and try to submit your project the earliest you can as the website get very busy close to deadline.
Is it possible to submit a project without completing the Professional Ethics Module or the new Ethics and Professional Skills module or all of the ACCA Fundamental papers (including exemptions)?
No.
What is expected after i submit the project?
You will receive a confirmation message that your submission has been received.
What is expected if i pass?
You will receive a certificate within 3 months of the release of the results and you will be invited to attend the next graduation ceremony either at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford or at a regional centre near you.
What is expected if i do not pass?
You will receive feedback on your online mark sheet, which will indicate which skills you passed and which skills you failed.
How many times can i submit my Research and Analysis Project?
You can submit your project the maximum three times.
What are the most common reasons for failure?
The most common reasons for failure are as follows:
- Insufficient analysis of the information that the student researches, often because insufficient information of the right kind has been researched.
- Not referencing the work properly.
- Information Technology and in particular not including reasonable evidence that a spreadsheet has been used.
If I analyse some published financial statements, do I have to include them in my project?
No, not the complete publication, but you should include a copy of the key financial statements including those of your comparator as an Appendix. However, each Appendix should be limited to eight sides.
I intend to analyse some questionnaires – do I have to include them all in my project?
No, but you must include a copy of the questionnaire and a summary of the responses as an Appendix.
How do I request an award confirmation letter/transcript?
Transcripts can only be ordered by graduates of the BSc programme, who have successfully completed the degree. Transcripts and award confirmation letters can be ordered through Oxford Brookes University on-line shop.
Is the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting recognised in the country in which I live?
The BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting is equivalent to any undergraduate Honours degree undertaken at a UK university and is recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). You will have to ask your own higher education authority if the BSc is recognized in your own country.
