Mentoring Service with Proven Results
Mentoring for ACCA Students Research and Analysis Project to obtain the BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University
Why Mentoring
Oxford Brookes University has developed with ACCA a degree in Applied Accounting, called the BSc (Hons) in ACCA, for ACCA students after completing the ACCA Applied Skills exam and the Ethics and Professional Skills module. Students who meet the eligibility criteria have to submit a successful Research and Analysis Project to obtain the degree.
According to Oxford Brookes University, the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting is defined as a program supported by mentoring, self-learning and distance education.
About Mentoring
According to Parsloe (2000) Mentoring has been defined as:
“the purpose of mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be”.
The mentor is not a teacher or tutor and should not teach the student about the project. The mentor is also there to occasionally guide the mentee and ensure that he or she meets the required standards. The mentor should not modify or submit the Research and Analysis Project for the student.
Mentoring enables mentees
Adapt ideas
Students can practice, evaluate and adapt their ideas and processes in an advanced way, so that they can emerge as confident and competent in their profession.
Develop interpersonal skills
Students can develop and enhance self-awareness and interpersonal skills that will enable them to function better in their work.
Professional perspective
Students can enhance a professional perspective that will enable them to identify their work performance in the wider context of the workplace and the community.
Future own learning
Students can develop self-assessment skills and the ability for autonomous learning, which together allow mentees to maximize their benefit from all learning events and seek future learning opportunities on their own.
